Kyserike Kraftman's Workshop Blog

Welcome to the Kyserike Kraftsman’s Website

By |January 1st, 2013

My interest in woodworking started early when I would visit my great grandfather’s and uncle’s workshops when I was a kid. I enjoy designing and creating works of art in wood that bring joy to the recipient.

I’ve created this site to document some of my experiences that will hopefully inspire others with similar interests. Please feel free to look around, leave comments, and come back often!

With almost 1 billion Facebook users we thought we should start embracing the social network scene and make our presence known on Facebook. So I’m here to announce that the Kyserike Kraftsman now has a page on Facebook. Please feel free to visit our Facebook page and don’t forget to Like us!

We plan on mirroring updates on both the website and the Facebook page, but will most likely post more photos on the Facebook page. The woodworking plans download store is also available through the Facebook page, so if you like Facebook feel free to use this avenue to make your plan purchases.

As I look back it’s been a great year for the Kyserike Kraftsman and I’m […]

New Download Store

By |December 22nd, 2012

Today we went live with a new interface to the download store section of the Kyserike Kraftsman website. We did this for a number of reasons. The old code that ran the store was back level and not easily upgraded, maintenance of the old software was also difficult to do, and the store front code was not geared toward selling digital products, so it took quite a big of rework to produce what we wanted. It was time to take the plunge and switch.

We chose ECWID to run the store. This shopping cart software looks to be a winner. It’s unique in that the core code runs on their servers rather than mine so they are responsible for […]

Curved Top Recipe Box

By |July 23rd, 2012

Recently I decided to experiment a little with the barrel coopering method to create a recipe box that had a curved top. Creating the top would have been possible on the band saw with some thick stock, but I wanted to learn how to do coopering.
You create a curved piece using coopering by  taking small narrow pieces of wood and creating a bevel on each side. When you glue each of the narrow pieces of stock together they form a contour. The narrower the pieces that you use, the more defined is the contour. After glue up, and a little planning, scraping and sanding I was able to create a nice smooth curved top to the recipe box that […]

Multi-Clarinet Stand is Complete

By |March 6th, 2011

I created two multi-clarinet stands as part of the commissioned project request. Each stand can hold up to 7 clarinets at one time. The stands are made from black walnut, finshed with danish oil, and topped with a wipe on gloss poly.

I made some changes to the original design after creating the prototype.
Brass Inserts
I wasn’t happy at all with using t-nuts for the threaded pins to support the actual clarinets. I didn’t think they would stand up under use so I decided to use threaded brass inserts from EZ-LOK instead. I bought a few extra to practice insertion techniques with, and I think this was a wise choice as they make a much more solid thread than the t-nuts […]
