Flip Top Planer Cabinet

Nancy gave me a planer for my birthday this year (2008). Where to store the tool presents somewhat of a problem in the workshop. The planer is too heavy (about 90 lbs) to keep in a cabinet or on a shelve and only pull out when needed. Bench top space is too valuable to keep the tool out all the time.

Solar Heater Platform

I wanted to learn how to use Google Sketch-up to help to design and model some of my projects so I spent some time learning how to use the tool. The Fine Woodworking website has some great tutorials to get started.

Here’s a couple of shots of the design in Sketch-up. It needed to support the 4 foot by 20 foot heater level on a sloping grade of 1′ for every foot.

Lingerie and Jewelry Chest (March 2008)

This was a special project that was a gift for my Mom for her 70th birthday. I started the project on January 30th (See the chronological history of the project below). Her birthday was March 19th, which didn't leave me much time for completing the project.

It’s been quiet here on the web page, but not in the workshop! Since the beginning of February I’ve been working on this jewelry chest to give to my mom for her 70th birthday. It’s made from some black walnut that my Dad had rough cut over 25 years ago. The web page for this project has all the details and a few shots of the finished gift.
